A speaker, pastor, and marriage/pre-marriage counselor based in Vista, California, Christopher (Chris) Hilken joined North Coast Church in Vista in 2001. In his role as a teaching pastor, Chris Hilken oversees The Jordan, the church’s program for young adults aged 18 to 25.
The Jordan relies on biblical tradition and knowledge of popular culture to cultivate a gospel-centered community of young adults, whether they are students, parents, or business professionals. In addition to weekly meetings, The Jordan hosts a podcast that encourages young adults to engage more fully with the church community.
In a recent episode of The Jordan podcast, a team from North Coast Church discussed ways members can go beyond simply attending church to truly becoming part of the church community. According to the hosts, thinking about “being” the church rather than “attending” the church can create a more meaningful sense of community and family among church members.
